Theresa Alphonsa Maria

Andreas proposed to me with his great-grandmother's ring. Sadly, he didn't really know anything about her besides the fact that she was portly later in life and the ring had to be resized to fit her larger finger (and therefore was too big for me. Thankfully, I haven't reached the portly stage yet). During our whirlwind wedding planning extravaganza in Switzerland last weekend I found out a little bit more from Andreas' father. Her name was Theresa Alphonsa Maria and she lived in the Netherlands. She was the oldest and had five younger brothers. Consequently she was called Sister her entire life. Even as an adult she was known as Aunt Sister to her brood of nieces and nephews.

I love my ring, I love the fact that there is so much history behind it and I love how it makes me feel more connected to Andreas' family. Plus, it sparkles and how can you not appreciate that?

aunt sister--so funny! my ring comes from robbie's great (great?) aunt. she was engaged to a man who died in world war I and she never ended up getting married to anyone. so romantic/sad right? anyway, that's just my way of saying that i love things with stories.

I love that it has a story! How neat! And the Aunt Sister thing reminds me of "Where the heart is" and Brother Husband and Sister Husband. Love that show.

Congrats!

I love the ring and the story.

Aunt Sister sounds charming, but she did have a lovely name - too bad she didn't hear herself called that more often!
